Yun Tian (Tony) received his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Mississippi 2013, with his dissertation advised by Dr. Philip J. Rhodes. He joined the Department of Computer Science at Eastern Washington University (EWU) in 2013 as an Assistant Professor. Before a Ph.D., he earned his B.S. from Fudan University in Computer Information Management 2006 and M.S. from Shanghai Teachers University in Computer Applied Technology 2008.
Yun Tian's former industry experiences include 3 years of system testing in Automatic Train Control systems 1999 through 2002. In 2009, he worked as a research assistant at National Center for Physical Acoustics, responsible for data acquisition and processing. In addition, he interned at FNC Inc. summer 2012 and worked with large Spatio-temporal dataset.
His research interests include Grid and Cloud computing, parallel and high-performance computing, General Purpose Graphics Processing Unit (GPGPU) computing and Big Data. He is enthusiastic about solving real-world problems using cloud services and parallel platforms. Recently, Dr. Tian’s research work is focused on using GPUs to accelerate large neural network training and cost optimized serverless cloud-based computer information systems. Dr. Tian is a certified AWS Solution Architect and Certified AWS Academy Educator and provides consultation on cloud-based business system solutions, migrating on-premises data center into AWS cloud, data storage/analytics and migration in AWS cloud, security in AWS cloud, high-performance, high-availability, fault tolerance and disaster recovery, and cost optimization in AWS cloud.
